Sometimes

Sometimes kids don't listen to or respect adults.

Sometimes those kids don't belong to you...but you love them anyway.

Sometimes you are put in authority over said kids and you have to stand up for what is right.

Sometimes you wonder what is wrong with this world and what ever happened to respecting elders and healthy fear of adults and just plain old common courtesy.

Sometimes you wonder if your ideas about parenting are just old fashioned or if somehow, somewhere, we're missing the boat.

Sometimes you have to raise your voice...just to get kids to even LOOK at you.

Sometimes you call kids out and remind them that you are in fact an adult, that your voice ought be listened for and it's just not okay to turn your back when someone in authority is giving direction.

Sometimes love is tough.

Sometimes when all is said and done and the dust has settled you shake your head and wonder if you are making the right decisions.

Sometimes your daughter comes home from school with a day marred by bullies.

Sometimes you are called "the mean mom" and kids take it out on your sweet, undeserving daughter.

Sometimes they say mean things about you in front of her and it     breaks       her          heart.

Sometimes you hold your daughter while she cries and you apologize over and over.  And over.

Sometimes you promise to never be that Mom again...to turn a blind eye to what you feel in your heart is such a slippery slope for coming generations.

Sometimes you state your case and explain that it's just not okay for kids to disrespect authority like that.

Sometimes you have to say the hard things.

Sometimes you have to tell your daughter that kids make mistakes and do not do what is right...even "so-called" missionary kids.

Sometimes you don't feel you have the wisdom the situation calls for and you just sit silently and pray.

Sometimes you cry along with her.

Sometimes you wonder if you should just give up and let the whole world go to hell in a hand-basket.

Sometimes you wonder why you even care.  They're not your  kids after all.

Sometimes you're reminded to love your neighbor as yourself.

Sometimes you ask the Lord how - just how - pray tell - you are supposed to pursue love in this situation.

Sometimes it takes more than one to change the world.  Or a community.  Or a generation.  Or even one child.

Sometimes you want to simply hide your kids away from the world for a while.

Sometimes it's just hard to be a mom.

I identify to pretty much all of this - except my pronouns when referring to my own kids would be the male gender. ;) - Andi
